10259753_695003427211884_6309451945217256490_nMoon Runners 2: I Won’t Let You Go is a story that is long overdue. I think I screwed myself on this one because I changed so much in what I originally had that I now have to bring it all back together.

I’m going to try and talk about the story without giving too much away in the plot-line. In book two Liam Kantry’s younger brother, Marcus gets his turn in the limelight. we have to hope his mouth doesn’t get him into too much trouble and if his mate, Kaleb can handle everything about Marcus.

Before they can have their happily ever after they along with the rest of the pack need to prepare for what’s coming… some is good—some not so much. Through the bad times Marcus and Kaleb need to figure out a way to work together if they are going to be strong enough to not only do their jobs, but explore the possibilities of their mating. Not everything in life is what it seems and our boys need to sift through everything to find the truth.

I’m hoping all my readers see the strides Marcus makes in his life and falls in love with him as much as I have begun to. When life gets him down he always finds a way to smile through it—even if he is breaking on the inside.

For those of you who have read book 1… please feel free to drop me a line and tell me which characters story you would like to hear next. I’m always up for suggestions.

Talking Writing

20151022_083954Writing a story is different for everyone… no two authors write exactly the same. Sometimes I wish I could write like so many of the people I admire, but then, if I could I wouldn’t be me.

I often admire they way other authors explain stuff… and try and emulate the way that they do things—without coming off like I’m stuck in description mode. The truth is, I get so caught up in the dialogue I most often forget to describe the setting at all… Thank God for beta readers and editors.

Writing can be very time consuming… so set yourself daily wordage quotas… For me I usually divide the ultimate wordage for the story by the number of days to give me my daily quota EG: 40,000 / 30 = 1,333.333333 (1,334) daily count. This might not wrk for everyone but I know it works for me… in me Moon Runners 2: I Won’t Let You Go… I have written 10,500 out of 40,000 leaving me with 29,500 to go and I want the story to be finished by October 15th (18 days)… my working out would be this: 29,500 / 18 = 1,638.8888…. (round up) 1,634 word per day needed to get me done on time.

I can’t say enough that a good author does these things:

  • Takes/keeps plenty of notes… there is nothing worse than reading a story and the persons eyes, or hair colour changes. Yes, I’ve been guilty of that. though, luckily for me it got picked up in the editing process.
  • Keep track of your time lines.. I personally have trouble with these. I think I work them out so perfectly, but I usually screw them up somewhere along the way.
  • Stick to what you know… I don’t mean never try something new, but unless you can verify your facts stay with what you’re comfortable with… because believe me your readers will know… (Lancaster’s Way 1: When Souls Collide) White gravy Vs White sauce that’s all I’m saying… in my defence we do cook brisket different.
  • Know you creatures… though if you’re anything like me you’ll want to shake things up a little.
  • Know your worlds… once you have that down-pat the story should run smoothly.
  • Know your publisher and their guidelines… try and always format to their way to make the journey easier.
  • Most importantly… talk to your editors if you feel strongly about something. especially if you want them to see things from your point of view… in saying that, realise that sometimes compromising is a good thing.

I hope these hints were helpful.

Pride Publishing…

PRIDE_transparent-3-300x143Now that I’m getting back into writing I’m concentrating on my Wardens of the Guild series. I know if I knock out the next three stories to end this series. I’m hoping to have them all done by the end of January 2017.

  1. The Real You (done)
  2. All That Shimmers
  3. Heart Strings
  4. Guilded Cages

This series has been niggling away in my mind for a while now. I love the characters and the world they’re in… the only problem I have is book 1 went so far off track that I have to try and bring the series story-line back on track. When I actually think I’m getting somewhere there are other characters who demand they need a bigger role in the story, or that they need their own stories told. I can’t listen to them all—that’s a lie—I totally listen to them. What can I say I’m a pushover.

I know book 2: is about Tagh & Eric… I know we’ll learn more about Tagh and just exactly what his species is… Honestly, right now I don’t have a clue. I won’t know until I sit in front of the computer and start writing. Planning these days gets me nowhere. I don’t say that lightly. I just know my mind has a tendency to veer off course when I get pulled into my own character’s worlds.

Book 3 is about Daven & Gabrialbook 4 is about Simon & Adrian… after you have read book 1 feel free to drop me a comment and let me know if there are other characters you’d like to hear about. You can even visits my WIPS page and see if there are any other series in the Yet To Be Housed section that catch your eye. I love hearing from my readers and answering their questions if I can.

qBsnRNjLIlxv177wu4BWTDh1o1_500For me Inspiration comes in many forms whether it comes from a picture like the one posted here (I borrowed this and have no clue who it belongs to) but it calls out to me… here is a story to be written and read. I want to be the person who gets to tell their unique tale. I want to do these two characters justice. I always wonder if others look at this same picture and envision it the way I do.

Thus I have so many questions I need answers to:

  1.  What’s going on inside their minds?
  2.  What does the fence have to do with the story-line?
  3. Are the friends or frenemies?
  4. Are they preternatural, alien, or human?
  5. What is their story?

Also I need inspiration on posting to my blogs… so here is my schedule until the end of the year… Hopefully the posts themselves will keep you all entertained.

36764_105130762871417_6990716_nMLRPress is the first publishing house that I submitted to, and after a rough first submission (meaning my story The Lines of Marsden 1: Rules Are Meant To Be Broken got lost somewhere in the internet world). Though, thankfully we got it all worked out and I became a published author… mind you, my first book to be released was Toowoomba Boys 1: Angels on Top.

This is what I have coming up next with MLRPress:

1- Experimentals 3: Messages from the Dead

2- Intended Mates 2: Dancing To the Sounds of Madness

3- Lancaster’s Way 3: Pre-loved

4- Sons of Evenmore 3: Fear The Scarlet Moon

5- The Lines of Marsden 4: The Trail of Red Roses

6- Toowoomba Boys 4: Securing The Heart

I also have a few others I have in mind for submitting to the publisher. Each week in this publisher spot I will be talking about my series… whether it’s talking character, settings, back story, story to come, and so on.

I would recommending submitting to MLRPress… Give yourself a chance to become part of a wonderful team. I have a wonderful editor: Christie N, who must be wondering what the hell happened to me—not really—as I let her know what was happening in my life.

Next week: I’ll be talking about The Lines Of Marsden… the series that had me stepping into the world of being a published author. You will be able to ask me any questions and I’ll answer them as best as I can.

Today I Am…

b-rtI’ve decided to clean up my computer and Dropbox… I think to be able to start writing again I need to be clutter free.  I just need to clear everything out and keep only the necessary things.

I’ll also be going through my back-burner books and posting a new excerpt here each Saturday (Australia) for everyone to read and then leave me their thoughts… I really do like listening to your thoughts on my writing… as long as everyone remembers the excerpts are only rough drafts.

Does everyone else declutter their computers? If so how often do you do it? Does anyone have any other helpful ideas on keeping story notes together? I have recently be using Lynn Viehl’s way… you can find some great blank forms etc here on her freebies page on her Paperback Writer Blog.

I think I also need to re read my own work, which I hate doing as I see so many things I’d like to change. Is it bad that I can’t remember what some of my books are about? I have to re read so that I can figure out where I was going with each series. I must admit I have a memory like a sieve. My daughter thinks it’s hilarious that by the time I get to the end of writing a story I can’t remember what happened in the beginning—I just think she’s being a mean bitch (and she doesn’t deny it).

I was asked recently if I follow specific guidelines when I write? I didn’t even have to think about it when I answered: No. The truth is, I write the genres I do so that I can mould my worlds into any shape I want. I don’t think there should be any set lines on what a vampire, a demon, preternatural creatures, fey, and any other mythical being should be like. I like people to see things from my point of view and never say this is just another predictable story.

On that note I will away, as I have some cleaning out and de-cluttering to do. Catch you on the flipside.

rednewscan Inner-City Pack 1: Barbwire Roses

Another Friday night and once again Wesley Rush found himself sitting in the living room at the house of the alpha for the Inner-City Pack. Being here for some would be classed as an opportunity to better one’s own life. For Wes, being human, and the best friend of the alpha’s youngest son Derek Reed, or Rek as everyone always called him…being here meant that he wasn’t at his parent’s house being ignored once again, or sitting in his own home all by himself. The problem was being here meant he would have to instead endure the animosity pouring of Rek’s older brother, Colton. For some reason beyond his fathoming, the guy always seemed to have hated him. Maybe it was because he was human, who knew? He for sure didn’t, and he wasn’t about to ask the man what the hell his problem was.

To top it all off he’d received another lecture from his father about hanging around Rek so much… it wasn’t that his father was an elitist, or humanist as some had been labelled. His father actually had many friends among the Lycans who co inhabited their world. The problem was his father, Tate Rush Senior, was of the opinion that the friendship Wes had with Rek would turn into something more. In other words his father didn’t want a gay son. Wes had been threatened by his father numerous times about what would happen to him if that were the case.

Being disowned wasn’t the worst thing on the list. Wes had tried to explain to his father once about Lycan mates, and that his father had nothing to fear. Because at twenty-two Rek had already passed into adulthood and knew his mate was out there somewhere because of the bond he’d already formed with someone he just hadn’t yet met. The weird part was the connection once opened remained that way until they stood face to face. Rek knew his mate would somehow make his way to the Inner-City Pack so they could eventually be together. Though right now Rek wasn’t sure if his mate was male or female. Lycans didn’t care what sex their mate was, because mates were something to be treasured and protected at all costs.

Their other best friend, Alison Crane, or Ali Cat as he and Rek had both called her since they’d all met back in primary school was now mated to Rek’s cousin, Roman Reed. They also lived in the alpha house, seeing as Roman had resided here since his parents were killed when he was a child. There was more to that story but no one was telling and especially not him.

Everyone had their secrets—even him—well up until tonight that is. His secret wasn’t anything bad or very shocking. Mainly he always downplayed who he was when he came to his friend’s house. He didn’t think they would like him as much if he come dressed as the real Wesley Rush. He knew it was probably a false feeling but before tonight he hadn’t been willing to risk showing them. So for this birthday instead of playing down his appearance, he wore the kohl which usually rimmed his slate grey eyes to make them stand out. He reapplied the black polish to his nails, and his normal braided hair now hung loose down his back ending around the middle of his spine. Rek and Ali Cat had always told him to be who he is, but Wes had never wanted to be an embarrassment to Alpha Adam Reed. Being who he was, Adam always had people stopping around, and Wes never once saw anyone who ever looked like he normally did.

He had often asked Rek why Colt seemed to dislike him so much, and his friend had explained because Colton was a strong Lycan, he could smell the deception on Wes. So that reason was why he was here on his twenty-first birthday sitting in the home of his friend once more and waiting for the precise moment he would transition from child to adult.. and for once being the real Wes. For the Lycans, at the precise time of your birth a person’s scent changed. Humans couldn’t smell the change, but for Lycans it was like broadcasting for all unmated adults. Adam had told him if he was lucky he may have a Lycan mate. Wes didn’t have the heart to tell the alpha he wasn’t really looking for a mate.

Right now though, Wes wasn’t even sure if he was going to even make it through the next ten minutes for the change to happen. The way Colt was giving him a death stare was truly unnerving. He couldn’t ever remember having recently offending Colt in any way, so he only had to go on what Rek had told him about smelling a lie. The kicker was, once a few years ago, Wes had actually thought he’d had a crush on Colt, but the guy’s attitude toward him had quickly cured Wes of following the thought too far. Also there was the small fact his father had forbidden him from ever being gay—as if it were a choice. The truth was, Wes wasn’t actually attracted to anyone, and he didn’t think it was going to be happening any time soon.

As the seconds drew closer to ‘the change’ taking place, Wes couldn’t help but notice more of the pack was gathering. The Reeds had always had an open house policy for pack, but tonight it felt different. Tonight, Wes got a sinking feeling they were all here for him. He wasn’t sure what he was meant to do about it.

“Are you okay?” Ali said as she and Rek came to stand by his side.

He shook his head. No he wasn’t okay. For some reason, Colt was staring at him with such intensity and Wes was finding it harder to breathe. If he didn’t know any better, he’d think the guy was contemplating whether or not to rip his throat out—painfully slow.

“What the hell is wrong with Colt?” Rek hissed to Ali, voicing what Wes had only been thinking moments before.

Ali tilted her head to the side and appeared to be studying Colt, while Rek typed a message on his phone. The alpha must have been the recipient as he nodded in their direction and walked over to Colt and lent in close to whisper in his son’s ear. Colt shook his head violently, pulled away from his father and took a step in their direction.

In that instant, more than one wolf present lifted their noses in the air and inhaled, but only one emitted a growl so deep it resonated through Wes. The man’s ice blue eyes, which had both fascinated him and terrified him many times through the years, were locked on him. Wes hadn’t even had time to move before Colton Reed crossed the distance between them and grabbed him. Colt sank his canines—very sharp canines—into the flesh where Wes’s shoulder and neck met. The sensation of Colt drinking from him was too much, and without thinking Wes punched Colt in the side trying to dislodge the man from his throat . At this stage he didn’t care if he died from the injuries.

When his attempts to free himself failed, Wes stilled and gave in waiting for Colt to be done. Only then did he hear the shit storm which was happening around them. The roar which left the alpha’s throat did what he couldn’t. Colt released him and dropped to all fours as his father forced him to shift. When a jet black wolf finally stood in front of them all his ice blue eyes were the same as the man who had attacked him. Alpha Reed came over and Wes stood terrified as the man checked out the bite and then gently but forcefully made him kneel on the floor before Colt.

The alpha glared at his son. “Close it before he bleeds to death.”

Inspiration For Me

20151022_083954People think I’m weird… I can’t even say they’re wrong. I know most authors—well some authors feel exactly the same way. I always carry a notebook and pens with me wherever I go. I’m the one you see having a cuppa at the mall jotting down notes like my life depended on it. And to top it all off I never seem to throw the books away once they are full. Even after I transfer everything onto my computer I store them in archive boxes. I always date when I write notes down… as if it’s proof that this is what I did on a certain day, and I own these notes/story ideas.

Sometimes I can’t even enjoy listening to music as I’m always listing to words or a phrase that will jump out at me and inspire me to write my own version… it may have nothing to do with the actual song itself, but those few extraordinary words take up room inside my head space until I put them to good use.

Take today for instance I was listening to Nickleback in the car and there are just certain songs of theirs that just make me want to pull out The Lines of Marsden and write. I don’t even know why to me Nickleback is Michael Marsden & Doyle Kerwin. Or why Bullet for my Valentine makes me automatically think of my series Experimentals. Why Chris Daughtry makes me hunger to write The Diamond Rose series. Or why Shinedown makes me think or The Connelly Chronicles.

The truth is I don’t even listen to music when I write. I like it to be nice and quiet. Yet I still find inspiration in the things I see and the things I listen to. I also love watching people in case I need to use them as a character in my stories.

Heads Up…

1512790_410250012411635_686866485_nOkay, after listening to a lot of different views about changing my author name from N.J. Nielsen to N.J. Saddington… I was going to do Saddo, but people thought it sounded unfinished. N.J Nielsen & N.J. Saddington are both my real names. I just don’t want people thinking that I’m trying to dupe them in any way.

Today I emailed all publishing companies about it… I’m hoping it isn’t going to be too much of a hassle… I really want to do this… Start my life fresh… I still have to tell my editors.

I think come January 2017 I should have everything changed over… I haven’t made this decision lightly… I have to thank my lucky stars that I’m not as popular as some other authors so my change of name shouldn’t have too much of an impact.

I have changed both of my blogs HERE and BLOGGER to N.J. Nielsen/Saddington… eventually I will remove the Nielsen once everyone is used to the change.
