First Edits

B - UDJust finished first edits and I have to say I hate writing blurbs. I suck at them so badly, and I feel so bad at my poor editor who has to read them and try and help me turn them into something that actually makes freaking sense.

but at least now Moon Runners 2: I Won’t Let You Go is back in the hands of Jamie DR for Fireborn Publishing. So until I get them back tomorrow I’m back onto  The Lines of Marsden 4: The Trail of Red Roses for MLRPress.

One Week In

WU 1My first week of the new year and I never got as much writing done as I would have liked. Life just got in the way.  Or rather, I should say, one little Houdini of a cat named Oliver came to live with us. His penchants for escaping has kept us rather busy in modifying the cat enclosure to make sure it is impossible. I guess I took for granted there would be marked differences between a 17-year-old cat and a 4-year-old cat. At least Oliver and Willow didn’t fight—maybe a little hissing on Willow’s part, but on a whole, they get along.

For those who don’t read my other blog I’m working on THE LINES OF MARSDEN 4: The Trail of Red Roses first up for 2018.

I promise as the year goes on I will get better at my blogging and not be useless like I have been for the last year or two. I’m determined 2018 is my year to get back into the swing of things. here is a list of what I plan on working on this year. I may not get all submitted but I’m aiming for at least 12 of them. to be ready for submission.

Strange Things Can Lead to Love… in the ER

We’ve all heard those urban legends of things happening in the ER or happening to cause a visit to the ER. The guy that decides to experiment with a new toy and it gets stuck. The guy that is in the ER for a dislocated shoulder or leg that ends up under the doctor when the doctor attempts to snap the bone back into place. The frat guy that gets hurt during the afterhours party.

The situations are endless.

Misfits

There have always been those toys that just don’t fit in. They’ve gathered on the Isle of Misfits and don’t ever think they’ll find a forever home. Through the magic of Christmas, each resident finds his forever home and perfect partner for him. How the magic of Christmas works is up to the author – could be Santa’s trip around the world on Christmas Eve; could be a magical snow globe; could be Jack Frost; or could be something else entirely.

Submissions should:

Have one character as a ‘resident’ of the Isle of Misfit Toys finding his forever home

Be a minimum of 10k, maximum of 40k

Any subgenre is welcome and all prohibitive guidelines are observed

Submissions should be sent to submissions@mlrpress.com

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: July 30, 2018 – stories will release in December 2018 to celebrate the holidays

Whether it’s to travel (see Australia, Stonehenge, Greece, etc.) or to do something (take a balloon ride, climb the 46 peaks in the Adirondak mountains, learn to scuba dive, etc.), there are things out there that people dream of.

Submissions should:

One of the characters must be focused on completing something off his bucket list

Be a minimum of 10k, maximum of 40k

Any subgenre is welcome and all prohibitive guidelines are observed

Lost Story & NaNoWriMo

question-mark-godOkay… I have searched my Dropbox, every memory stick, and even my external hard drive… and I seem to have lost the first 10K of Experimentals 3: Messages From The Dead. that I wrote for NaNoWriMo back in 2015… so when I start NaNoWriMo this year I’ll have to start from the beginning… On a good note, I did find in my cleaning up, my hand written synopsis for Messages From The Dead… I just don’t know how someone who is as anal retentive as I am about keeping track of shit could lose a story.

Last night I did take the time to take a couple of hours to skim through both #1: Blessed With A Curse, & #2: Running Into Zero Tolerance, and wrote down all the character names getting ready for the big write in November… when I’ll be writing 3 & 4: Movements In The Dark back to back. To get both done, I need to write 2,667 words per day for November.

As you can see, I’ve made it to 5K in The Diamond Rose 2: So Pretty On The Outside… I won’t be writing today as I have a family BBQ to attend today… it’s going to be fun. The story so far is heading where I thought it might. Though, it’s not exactly about who I thought it would be the main characters. At first, I thought it wold be about Tori & Darkan/Goliath… turns out I was wrong. It’s two years later, and it’s now about Wynn & Teagan… But I’m still hoping you will enjoy the read.

I’m at a standstill on The Lines Of Marsden 4: The Trail of Red Roses... but only until my glasses come back. Because, I know once I start back on it, I won’t want to stop, and I can’t do that with fuzzy lenses.

I’ll also be starting soon on Wardens Of The Guild 3: Heart Strings… but again I’m just waiting on the glasses. I’ll have to go and do the whole write down all the character names for this one too. I’m really bad at forgetting names.

Still no news on Moon Runners 2: I Won’t Let You Go… but hopefully I will hear from Fireborn Publishing soon.

Short Update On A New Idea

question-mark-godI decided to branch out and send in a new (old) story idea that I’ve had rattling around inside my head for a couple of years now to one of my editors to see if it’s worth pursuing or not. I should find out in the next week or so.

The story is young adult, and preternatural in nature. I’m hoping that maybe it’s a good idea. if not I will put it back on the back burner and do some more thinking on it.

I’ll let you all know what happens when I find out about it. Hopefully it’s not a big waste of time. Mind you I’ve never written YA before, but I’m willing to give it a good crack if given half the chance.

Been Working On

collectorcard-2.5inx3.5in-h-frontI’ve just re read through all the books in the series thus far to see where I was heading. More to the point, I needed to figure out where I was taking book 4: The Trail of Red Roses, as it seemed so different from everything so far.

I did have to go back through the first 30K and do some major rewriting, and actually add one of the main character who I seemed to have left out of the first six chapters for some strange reason. Who knows why, but hopefully I am on the right track again now.

I wan’t to try and get this story written by the middle of August, as I still have a few other books that I need to work on for this year. Though most of those are novellas. It’s taken me a long time to get back into writing (15 months more or less) and I’ve found it very difficult to stay focused long enough to get anything finished. By the end of this book it will be 3 for the year and I hope to at least double that by the end of December. I think 6 books sounds like a good amount, and 2018 will be a better year for me as all the bullshit will be behind me.
